It’s always fun to present substantially new content, and this was my first time giving large portions of this talk. Rethinking the Progress Bar

“This paper describes an experiment that sought to identify patterns in user perception of progress bar behavior. The results are then analyzed to classify behaviors that perceptually speed up or slow down process execution. Magic Ink: Information Software and the Graphical Interface

In this paper, I suggest that the long-standing focus on ‘interaction’ may be misguided.
